Which device will you buy? James Simadas - Wednesday, April 06, 2011

Which Device will you buy?

It's rather interesting to see the results of a recent survey asking consumers which PC device they will buy in the future.
1,933 respondents indicated the majority (34.8%) would purchase a Laptop computer in the next 12 months, followed very closely by 27.6% of respondents claiming they will purchase a standard desktop.
Netbooks, the small 10" type that became popular during 2009/10 have taken a dive in recent months, probably due to the iPad and other tablet devices taking up 6% and offering better portability and a more friendly user experience.
Which device are you likely to buy?

Convertible Computers

I was invited to attend the launch of the new T1125N Laptop convertible today, and I have to say I was very impressed.
The manufacturer, Gigabyte, a company that has made it's name as a leader in Mother boards and graphic cards for PC's also produces some of the smarter laptops available.
Today's luncheon focussed on the new "Netvertible" design featuring an 11.6" convertible Laptop with power and design to suit the busy executive or gamer.
This very clever Laptop has a capacative touch screen mounted on a very tough swivel that allows the screen to be rotated and laid back on itself to form a full touchscreen 11.6" slate tablet. It comes complete with a unique docking station incorporating a removable DVD burner and plenty of ports for connecting HDMI for true 1080p high def, USB 3.0, ethernet and additional display panels.
It is a very highly featured laptop in a small and portable format, but at an incredibly fantastic price!
I was quoted $1199 for the Windows 7 Home premium edition, complete with dock and DVD Burner, and $1299 for the Windows 7 Professional version (due in a few weeks)
This convertible laptop naturally has WiFi built in, and for $169 for the 3.5G Wireless Modem card you can insert a Data SIM for wireless web access on the go.

Keep an eye out for this very clever and versatile "Booktop" convertible as Gigabyte call it.
