Many a word will continue to be written about the impact that Tablets will have on the human race.
The humble tablet as we refer to them today can maybe be compared to that famous tablet of the late 90's that "kept people up all night".
Statistics show that tablet usage is on the up, (no pun intended), and of course we have the iPad from Apple to thank for that, just like we can thank Pfizer for bring the must have tablet for all night performance to market back in 1998. Coincidentally, 1998 is the same year Donna and I started Jenlist Distributors.
It is estimated that usage of the Smart Phone and Tablet will see more people spending time surfing the Web next year on their personal Tablet or Smart Phone than they do on a traditional PC. It's hard to believe I am today referring to a "tradtional PC" that in reality has only really been in common use in homes since about 1998, about the same time Pfizer and Jenlist had uplifting moments.
But enough word play. I think you get my drift by now.
As per the graph right, the average Android user (and this is the same for users of Apple's iPad and iPhone) spends almost an hour a day interacting with the Web or apps. This just shows that consumers that may have spent this time interacting with friends, watching TV, playing sport, etc has re-assigned their time to spend more of it surfing the web or using applications such as email, game play or social media interaction. So, they still interact with friends then, but on a broader scale with more people in further away places as well as locally.
So, what is it I am trying to get at here? Simple, I think.
If you are a retailer and want to be a part of this growth, then I strongly suggest you get involved in retailing products that these consumers are purchasing, get involved with Social Media to "talk" to your consumers, and embrace the future within your business. An hour a day now will soon turn into 2 hours.
Your customers will continue to upgrade their devices, and more often than not they will do this in a convenient and comfortable environment. Make sure your retail outlet is a comfortable environment to be in and make sure you offer the latest "smart" devices for them to purchase.

Hello Anonymous again. Have you tried the upgrade? It appears to me that this should work on Post Paid and Prepaid. I have however questioned Optus on this for clarification.

With the 2.1-2.2 upgrade will it erase anything from my phone?
James commented on 23-May-2011 11:50 AM
Hi Nathan. No. You should not lose any of your information if you follow the instructionscarefully and "back up" your data. Also, once you have already downloded Apps from the market, you can dounload them again using your same GMail account and you do
not have to re-purchase them.

Hi James, I am having problems updating my Optus MyTab to android 2.2. I have downloaded drivers and the update, however when i run the update and click start it tells me that this software update is only for prepaid devices. The optus mytab that i have
purchased was a pre-paid device. Any assistance you can provide to assist me to update to android 2.2 would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks Emily
James commented on 27-Jun-2011 10:46 AM
Hi Emily. Sorry you are finding the upgrade difficult. I know when I did it there was a certain amount of patience required. I am surprised to hear the upgrade has told you it will not work with your prepaid device. Couple of questions. 1. Is your SIM
card present in the My Tab when you connect it to your PC? 2. Is the device on the Home screen when connected? If you are still unable to upgrade please feel free to email me directly james@jenlist.com.au.

Hi Peachy, Unfortunately the My Tab does not run Flash, even with the upgrade to Android 2.2. I am not a gambler and do not know of any sites for online gambling. sorry.

can you save apps on you memory card
james commented on 14-Aug-2011 03:33 PM
Yes. but this is usually dependent on the app itself. you will need to have updated to 2.2 as well.
Jono commented on 21-Aug-2011 02:47 PM
Hi James, wondering how much internal memory the MyTab carries; also is there any word on when stock will be available again?
Shake commented on 26-Sep-2011 11:12 AM
Hey, I have Documents (either doc or pdf) that I want clients to sign on the Mytab on the go. Can the Mytab do that? I heard Iworks and EasySign (Apple Software) can do it, but is there a way to get that option on the Mytab? Thanks heaps for the help in
advance Shake
Which Device will you buy?
It's rather interesting to see the results of a recent survey asking consumers which PC device they will buy in the future.
1,933 respondents indicated the majority (34.8%) would purchase a Laptop computer in the next 12 months, followed very closely by 27.6% of respondents claiming they will purchase a standard desktop.
Netbooks, the small 10" type that became popular during 2009/10 have taken a dive in recent months, probably due to the iPad and other tablet devices taking up 6% and offering better portability and a more friendly user experience.
Which device are you likely to buy?
You can let me know buy posting a comment on this blog.
iPad 2 without 3G can make sense It can make sense now days to purchase a Tablet like the new iPad 2 (we don't sell these) as a base model Wifi only, and save money.
With the advent of portable WiFi 3G Broadbands being readily available and offering exceptional value, you can easily enjoy the benefits of using WiFi enabled devices and connect multiple units to portable WiFi hotspot you can comfortably carry in your pocket or purse.
What do I mean? Simple. A Mobile Broadband Wifi device such as the OptusWifi Mini Modemor theVirgin WiFi Modemallows you to connect as many as 5 WiFi enabled devices, such as Laptop PC's, Tablets, Mobile phones, etc and have portable access to the internet while you are out and about, or at home. You can even run a WiFi Hotspot in your car !
58 Million Tablets in 2014 The latest data from market research firm, In-Stat, indicates there will be more than 58 Million Tablet devices shipped world wide during 2014.
Tablet sales are still in their infancy, with the market mostly being general consumers.
Expectations are that Tablet devices will boom over the coming few years for both consumer and business applications.
Currently, the consumer is the primary target for tablets, but as more applications and development takes place, business users will adopt Tablet devices for everyday work.
It is estimated that 1.2% (about 270,000 people) of the Australian population have bought a Tablet so far, but 1 in 8 people have said they will soon purchase a tablet of some kind.
This means in the foreseeable future, Tablet sales will grow ten fold. I guess as more tablets become available, and competition drives the price down, then tablets could one day be as popular as the humble Mobile phone. Consumers upgrade their mobile phone on average evry 18 months, and I have no doubt consumers will also update their tablet PC's on average every 24 months or so as new Tablets are launched and new operating systems become smarter.
iPad 2 released So, here it is. The famous iPad 2 has made it's debut and there are already a number of reports suggesting the iPad 2 is underwhelming. One thing is for sure. It will sell, and sell well. There are many people that would have decided to wait for a better iPad, and this may just be enough for them to take the plunge now. Personally, I prefer a smaller format for a Tablet, and I love the Android operating system, so I have no intention of getting an iPad (1 or 2). My wife has the iPad and loves it. She hasn't shown an interest in the iPad 2 though, so I think that existing owners are unlikely to upgrade straight away, but who knows. The new iPad is thinner, faster and lighter (by about 110grams) and features a front and rear camera, although the rear camera for video and photos is only 0.7 megapixel. A far cry from the 3MP of the Optus My Tab, and many Tablets and smart phones feature 5MP and even 8MP. No doubt the picture quality will be quite good though if the iPhone is anything to go by. Apple seem to have got the software and processing of picture right, and this helps to make for good images. The important specs are:- 9.7 inch display (1024 x 768) 1 GHz Dual-Core Apple A5 Processor 16GB, 32GB or 64GB Memory Front VGA and rear 720p Cameras 8.8 mm thick Weight of 590 grams Available in Black or White
The colour is a bit suspect at the moment for Australia, because the iPhone 4 is supposed to be available in white, but just try and get one. Most people will cover their phone or tablet with after market accessories any way, so I don't think colour is that important. By the way, the above pictures are the official Apple ones, and show a cover with a built in stand in lots of different colours. Price is expected to be about the same as the current one at release, so we may see more discounting of the outgoing iPad 1... Bargain anyone ?
The iPad 2 is expected to be released on 25th March in Australia.
Samsung have just reduced the retail price of the Samsung Galaxy Tablet. Now only $749.00 retail
Andriod 2.2 tablet witha 7" multi touch screen. Everything you could want in a quality tablet.
Check it out here and order yours today ! Retailers don't forget tolog in for pricing.
Last year I told my staff that 2011 will be the year of the Tablet, lead of course by Apple who have done a great job with the iPad marketing it as the device of the future... the must have personal PC!
This year, there will be a raft of competitors showcasing Tablet devices ranging in size from 5" to 12" and using a number of different operating systems. Sales of the iPad approach 3 million worldwide, while the 7" Samsung Galaxy Tablet launched later in 2010 sold a million units in the first 2 months.
Tablets sales in Australia are growing at a huge rate, and with the introduction of affordable Pre-Paid Tablets like the Optus 7" My Tab running Android 2.1 selling for $279, sales will sky rocket.
It is esimated that 9% of people in Austrlia will own a Tablet by mid year, and as much as 23% will own or have access to a Tablet by year end.
2011 will indeed be the year of the Tablet. Check this article in The Australian newspaper.
Retailers need to ensure thay are following these trends. If you are not stocking Tablets yet, now is the time to start. It is also a good idea to promote recharge availablty at your stores to grab the attention of people using Pre-Paid mobile, Broadband and Tablet devices.

<3 My MyTab! I have been lucky enough to roadtest the Optus MyTab for feedback here in the office and all I can say is GREAT! Being a bit of a diehard apple user I found it took a little while to get used to the Android operating system, but a few days later I just can't get enough of it. The touch screen is responsive and easy to use with the Home, Back and Menu buttons making navigating all the features a snap. I've already downloaded a number of applications from the market which has thousands to choose from. If my mytab is anything to go by, I say bring on 2011! Year of the Tablet!!

Following on from "The Australian" article, newsagencies are selling more and more technology based publications like Stuff & T3 that are highlighting tablets.
It makes sense to merchadise your Telco cabinet next to these magazines or create signage for an upsell:
"Like the iPad but not the price point? Check out our Andriod Optus MyTab for only $279"
The Optus My Tab 7" tablet has arrived, and what a great device this is. I have just cracked open the box and activated the Optus My Tab, and I have to say, I am impressed. When Telstra released their Touch Tab, I bought one to try it out. Although it worked as expected, I was disappointed with the resistive touch screen on the Telstra Touch Tab.
No concerns with the Optus My Tab by comparison. I am impressed with the ease and responsiveness of the resistive screen of the Optus My Tab. Typing on the pop up keyboard is simple and easy. The My Tab is a light weight 403 grams and is easily popped into the back pocket of your jeans, or into a coat pocket. Even better for the girls, as the Optus My Tab will comfortably slip into most handbags. What better way to stay in touch with family and friends, complete with unlimited FaceBook, My Space and Twitter access, all using the fantastic Optus dual band "Open Network".
If you want to be one of the first to own this fantastic mobile broadband 7" tablet from Optus Prepaid, then click here to order today!
